Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], February 27: <\/strong>Growing online gaming habits and increasing screen dependency among youth are emerging as serious public health concerns, with new research linking excessive digital exposure to memory decline, anxiety, reduced attention span, and musculoskeletal disorders. These critical findings were highlighted at\u00a0JG PHYSIOCON 2026<\/strong>, a landmark National Physiotherapy Conference successfully organised by JG University on 20th and 21st February 2026 at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium.<\/p>\n

Bringing together over\u00a02,300 physiotherapists, academicians, researchers, and students<\/strong>\u00a0from across India, the two-day conference stood as one of the largest physiotherapy gatherings in the region under the theme\u00a0\u201cRestoring Movement & Rebuilding Lives.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Research Highlights: Digital Overuse Under Scanner<\/strong><\/p>\n

The conference witnessed the presentation of\u00a0588 scientific research papers<\/strong>, addressing contemporary clinical challenges, technological impact on health, and advancements in physiotherapy practice.<\/p>\n

One of the key studies titled\u00a0\u201cMobile Smartphone Addiction and Mindfulness Among College Students\u201d<\/em>\u00a0was presented by Final Year student Kashish Champavat. Conducted among 170 college students, the research revealed a strong negative correlation between smartphone addiction and mindfulness levels. The findings suggested that excessive screen exposure significantly reduces concentration, emotional stability, and academic efficiency.<\/p>\n

Another impactful study,\u00a0\u201cOnline Gaming and Its Association with Hand Pain Among Youth,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0presented by Third Year student Seema Parvin Khan, examined 80 students and found that nearly\u00a060 percent<\/strong>\u00a0reported hand and finger pain due to prolonged gaming. Participants spent an average of\u00a03.6 hours daily<\/strong>\u00a0on mobile gaming, raising concerns about musculoskeletal strain and sedentary lifestyle risks.<\/p>\n

A third notable paper,\u00a0\u201cRelationship Between Screen Time and Mental Health Among Students,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0presented by Final Year student Hetvi Shah, revealed that\u00a078 percent<\/strong>\u00a0of surveyed students reported anxiety symptoms, while\u00a062 percent<\/strong> experienced attention-related challenges. The study concluded that prolonged digital exposure adversely impacts cognitive functioning, memory retention, and overall productivity.<\/p>\n
